Viewsonic V3D231 I had recently put together a gaming computer, but was stuck with a 17-inch 720p monitor I had received as a present 2 years ago. I couldn’t enjoy the full High-Definition experience my games were meant to display, so I decided to order a monitor. Seeing as I have had a wonderful experience with passive 3D televisions, I decided to order this 3D monitor.

I ordered a few days before New Year’s day however, and Amazon was out of stock. Seeing as how other sellers were selling the monitor for much more than amazon was selling it, I decided to “reserve” one so that it would be purchased as soon as amazon had it in stock. After two days, amazon was finally stocked with it, and the order had gone through. I received it much sooner than I expected too. The box it was
shipped in was slightly crushed in one corner, but the box inside holding the monitor was in perfect condition. Everything in the description was present with no missing cables or parts. The passive 3D lens clip-on is really useful for people who wear glasses and don’t want to wear two pairs to be able to experience 3D. The passive 3D glasses I received were slightly scratched in one lens, but not enough to prevent me from using it. Tridefignition runs games in spectacular 3D.

Not every game is supported, however, but those that are leave me amazed. My display has finally become a window to a completely different world, whether or not I like it. The Tridef community is helpful in getting more games supported through the use of custom profiles that can be changed when accessing the profile in-game. I was able to get Audiosurf working correctly to suit my needs, after downloading a game profile made by another tridef user in the tridef community and adjusting it to work with the monitor. Not all games work with tridef, however, but playing them in 2D on this monitor is a blast! The two monitors that arrived to my house contained no dead pixels. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and family members.

Asus VG236H While I haven’t tried any of the other 120hz monitors on the market, I’m completely in love with this one. Being a competitive FPS gamer, I was looking for a monitor with the response and smoothness of a CRT. This is certainly it. If you’re used to gaming on a 60hz LCD, you will be amazed at how fluid and clear the picture is at 120hz. However, it is imperative that you use the special dual-link DVI cable that comes in the box and install the appropriate drivers, or the picture won’t look right when you set it to 120hz. Out of laziness I just plugged in my previous monitor’s cable, and the screen looked messed up. Additionally, you may notice input lag or other unwanted effects if you don’t have the right drivers installed, so be sure to take care of all that before critiquing.

The picture on this monitor is beautiful. The colors really pop, especially when running in the “game mode” preset, which adds an additional level of contrast and intensity to the color. The screen is glossy, but I don’t have any issues with glare, even with a window directly behind me.

I didn’t buy this monitor for its 3D capabilities, and I have nothing to compare it to, but the stereoscopic 3D appears to work great when viewing the included demos and playing Bad Company 2.

The monitor has a very sturdy frame, and has both height and tilt adjustments. This is great considering monitors seem to have gotten more and more wobbly over the years.

Overall I would highly recommend this monitor for fast twitch FPS players, or anyone looking for a fluid and highly responsive gaming display. If you’re in the market for a 120hz monitor and are concerned about the issues that seem to be plaguing most of the other options in the marketplace, then this is a no-brainer. I’ve found that most of the negative reviews of this product are a result of not using the included cable or not having the proper drivers installed.

Samsung S27A750D First Impression: The monitor is really good looking, Very thin and looks very good on the table, I was skeptic that the monitor might get damaged during shipping coz i got it shipped to Kuwait, But it was in perfect condition.

2D: The monitor looks really amazing in 2D, the picture is very crisp and amazing looking.

3D: I am using an AMD card so i tried using the Tridef 3D software that came with the monitor but really could not get it working, but I will still keep trying to get it working properly. Then i begun using the built in 2D->3D conversion and it works really well. I was really impressed with the 3D now. I will still keep trying to get the Tridef to work and once i get it working i will mention how it is, its been only 24 hours i had the monitor with me so i’ll play around a bit more.

ASUS G75VW-AS71 So I noticed some weak reviews for this product and am quite disgusted. I bought this unit from Best Buy and have so far been impressed. I typically am a desktop user, in fact, I normally custom build my own rigs. I was in the market for a laptop, and didn’t want to frustrate myself with custom building one so I shopped around a lot. For the price, it will be difficult to beat this machine. The only laptops that will come close (Dell XPS, AlienWare, and MSI) would all likely cost and extra $500-$1000. Every game I have played so far (Portal 2, Skyrim, etc) have ran on ultra settings with extremely great frame rates. Now for the Pros and cons:

Pros: Great heat displacement, it has two large exhaust ports on the backside of the machine. This keeps the heat off of the bottom and allows for “lap-top” computing. Processing speed is amazing. Cost is low, but shop around, I got it at Bust Buy for $200 cheaper (though the build is not exact to this model make your own decisions as to what you need). Back-lit key board is extremely neat. Large vibrant HD screen. Its not loaded down with a bunch of bloatware and demos. GTX 660M is a great GPU for most all (with the exception of the have to have the most expensive and overkill, melt your face GPU) users. Additional port for secondary HDD. Easy access for upgrades to HDD an memory. Ivy Bridge! This thing has blistering fast multi-app processing power!

Cons (and the reason for 4 stars): The biggest drawback for me is the 1TB HDD, as it is slow (7200 RPM). For this reason alone Windows Experience Index rated it a 5.9. All other ratings were mid to upper 7′s. Shame on you Asus. For $130 buy a 128GB SSD from Amazon and up your computing potential. Just use the 1TB as a slave. It is bulky, but to be expected as it is a gaming lappy. Good luck trying to find a case that fits it.Lastly the power brick is enormous and the battery is lucky to give you 1.5 hrs unplugged. Again, this is a gaming laptop so this is to be expected.

Other thoughts: The pros highly out weigh the cons! For the price this Republic of Gamers laptop by Asus is a great investment.
